Chilled Blast from the Caribbean

I have never been to the Caribbean, well not yet atleast.  But I have been to Bahama Breeze – a laid back ” beachy” restaurant in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. The minute you park your car, walk inside and you are transported to the beautiful islands of the Caribbean – you can almost hear the ocean and feel the sea breeze!

I loved the food here, but I am here to talk about Bahama Breeze’s signature frozen cocktail – Frozen Bahamarita! Its cooling, refreshing and a delicious blend of a frozen margarita and tropical fruits  – Kiwi, Mango and Strawberry! Yum! All this served up with a shot of Cactus Juice Schnapps just to give the right amount of zing!

So last weekend when I was entertaining a few friends, I decided to serve up some cool refreshing drinks – from fruit sangria’s to mojitos. But they didn’t quite do it. And suddenly – a shot out of the dark – a moment of pure delight when I thought of the Frozen Bahamarita. So I went looking for a recipe online.

This is what I found: A recipe from Bahama Breeze adapted to enjoy at home

BahamaRita® from Bahama Breeze

Prep time:20 minutes
Cook time:10 minutes
Serving size:4

Equipment:
Two quart containers and three small bowls.
Four large chilled martini glasses.
A paring knife, a blender, a teaspoon, and a cutting board.

Ingredients:
Fresh kiwi, mango, and strawberries, 10-11 oz. each (Peel the kiwi and mango and cut into slices.)
1¼ lb. sugar
Three to four lemons, limes and oranges
Cuervo Gold Tequila
DeKuyper Cactus Juice Schnapps (chilled)
PROCEDURES

Simple Syrup:

Mix 1¼ lb. sugar with 16 oz. of warm water until dissolved. Refrigerate half of mix.
Margarita Mix:

Squeeze juice from halves of lime, orange, and lemon into a quart container and add remaining half of the simple syrup to the fruit juice. Then refrigerate the mix. These two mixes will last for 24 hours.
Fruit Ices:

Blend each fruit, ice, and two ounces of simple syrup separately until thick. Store separately in bowls. These three mixes will last for 2-3 hours.
Ready to Serve:

Blend Margarita mix, tequila, and ice until thick.
Add two teaspoons of each ice in the bottom of your chilled Martini glass.
Top with the thick Margarita Mix, and it pour over the drink.
Mix a shot of Cactus Juice Schnapps into the drink.
Place lime and orange wedge on the rim to serve.

If you cant find Cactus Juice Schnapps, you can try Sprite!

I also found these recipes on Cravings of a Lunatic.

So Drink Up! Cheers! and enjoy the Breeze of the Bahamas!

And don’t forget to post a picture of your Bahamarita!

  1. I’m traveling right now but live about 20 miles from the Bahama Breeze in Raleigh. Your post inspired me to visit there when I get back and also drop by the duty free liquor store at the airport 🙂
